Portraits and Acrylics

I've been trying my hand at using acrylics as an underpainting.  I did the above painting consisting of two canvases awhile back in oil using palette knife and was pretty happy with the way it turned out but decided to try the next baloon painting starting with an acrylic underpainting.  I found this bouquet of balloons in my back yard hovering just above the ground last Valentine's day and when I brought them inside and they dried out they ended up on the ceiling.  I want to paint them bumping against the ceiling and I am enjoying the acrylic.  I still have a ways to go but may leave them in acrylic.

Making Adjustments

Between walking Buddy, errands and a very little housecleaning I have been doing a little painting.  Mostly making adjustments and trying to finish a couple.  Here is one that I thought I had finished but the more it sat on my fireplace, the more I felt it needed a little more movement rather than everything be so calm.  I added some birds in flight which seems to have done the trick.  Now for a better name than "Resting Flock"....

Busy Day

Had a very busy but great Thursday.  New student came by with a beautiful vase of flowers from her garden and a nice card.  Can't wait to paint them!  I am enjoying helping people find the fun in painting.  Here are two little shoe paintings I have just finished.  Both are 5x7 oils.

The unfinished one below is of (as you can see) bottles in a crate that was lit from below giving them great color and interesting light.  Most of this is being done using a palette knife. Title is "Drinkbox" 18x24 Oil

Starting my Blog

Hi Everyone!

Well, I am going to give this "blog thing" a try and let you follow my work and work-in-progress.  I think it is fun to see the beginnings of things and how they turn out (or don't turn out!;0)  I would appreciate your feedback.  These three paintings were selected for the "Passionately Pink" Art Show to be held at the C Art Gallery in Seattle, Washington.  All commissions will be donated to the Susan B. Komen for the Cure Foundation.  The reception will be October 14.  Not sure of the time yet.  Hope you can come.  Show will be up until October 30th.
